Pompeii

A street in Pompeii

Before  I visited Pompeii  I imagined it to be merely a collection of ruined buildings. And of course in a way , it was. Initially, whilst picking up my tourist staples of  the  terracotta vase for Mum and the  cast of the Three Graces for my sister ,  it was a strain to imagine that in AD 79 the streets and houses there were full of people, and of life.
What I didn't expect is the lasting impact this visit would have upon me . Soaking up the unique atmosphere of the place I sensed   a real connection between my own existence and that of the ancient Roman world - it is for this reason that the  place engrained me  with such a powerful and  unforgettable memory .

This is a lovely video I found on youtube of Pompeii- showing some of the famous highlights such as the  monuments Macellum, the Temple of Apollo, the Forum Baths and the House of the Faun.
