Making a mark

I made these little pictures and I think they work well as a series- but also I may develop them into larger paintings in the future.

Layered Drawings

Some little drawings I did on tracing paper, then  played around with them- layered them and scanned them to 'flatten' the images.

Mini collages

These are some mini collages I made about things I care about - they are just starting points for possible projects, and play with composition and space.

'Typography' book covers

A few ideas for book covers I created using mixed media, papers, paints, ink and use of the photocopier.

Paper collages

Here's a little series of small square collages I produced that explore space,  use of scale, shape colour and media within the composition.

ATOI ARTS

I just got sent a link to the website of an artist friend of a friend.  There is some really fascinating ideas on here, and I particulary enjoyed the stuff about their 'Cloud Seeding' project, exploring the use of  a method of altering the weather to suit the purpose!
Thought I'd pop it on here, for those that might be interested too ( -thanks Paul!).

Perspective: Making the rules and breaking them

So, I'm going to have a little look into the use of 'perspective' in art - at those  who made  the rules, and those that break them... (  just cant seem to label works at the mo, blogger  website being a bit too stupid...naughty technology)

'Relativity'  Escher

M C Escher-  Many of his images contain several vanishing points and an exaggerarted three point perspective that creates impossible spaces

Picasso- Wanted the viewer to look at the objects in his work from several points of view. Broke all the rules of the 'artistically correct' With Braque, and the influence of Cezanne's later work, went on to invent 'Cubsim'

Cubism - Paintings that depict real people, places or objects, but not from a fixed viewpoint. Instead it shows many parts of the subject at one time, viewed from different angles, and reconstructed into a composition .

David Hockney- Joiner photographs, interested in altering the way we make pictures. Created photo-collages,  from a series of photograph taken from different perspectives and at slightly different times, similar results as cubism.

Donatello- helped develop new tool of 'linear ' perspective, 'The Feast of Herod'  the earliest surviving example of scientific perspective, uses   a “vanishing point”, an imaginary single point on the page in which all the parallel lines meet.

Giotto- One of the first uses of perspective was in Giotto’s ‘Jesus Before the Caïf’. Depth conveyed by either a 'non-geometric construction principle or a different form of construction that did not involve the use of vanishing points.'

Mantegna - Created illusion of 3D image on flat 2D ceiling, 'Ceiling of the Camera degli Sposi' 1465-74 example of di sotto in su (seen from below)

Byzantine Art - perspective drawing where the further away the objects are, the larger they are drawn, vanishing point  near the viewer, it possibly shows God looking upon the viewer, for example, rather than the viewer looking upon God. 'As  God is  omnipresent his view converges from everywhere, rather than scanning out from a point.'

Partick Hughes -  Fascinated by the illusion of perspective
